Tarawera Trail

Last week Lisa and I set out to cover the 15km trail along the beautiful Tarawera lake. The track covered mostly by inland bush was indecisive in its desired altitude, forcing my unfit legs to climb up and down repetitively from the low point of 300m to the heighest point of 480m. During the walk through the 4-5 hour track there are several viewing points to peak out onto lake Tarawera, and its surrounding mountains. The scenery along the way is beautiful but scarce, its not until you exit the bush at the final descent from 480m that you get to admire it all fully. At the end of the track you are blessed by the lovely views of Mount Tarawera from the shore of its lake. This shore is not you average lake beed though it is thermally heated in parts due to the natural thermal activity of the surrounding volocanic land.
